The hustle and bustle of holiday shopping is nothing compared to the hard-hitting hockey season. However, B-Sens players Andre Benoit and Tyler Eckford took to the mall this week to take on possibly one of their most dangerous tasks, shopping.
"It's for them to wake up christmas morning and have some presents," said Benoit. "That's what makes it special for me."
Benoit, Eckford and their families are shopping for a local family in need this holiday season. The team adopted a family through the Family Enrichment Network and now are hard at work to stuff their stockings. For the players it's a chance to take a break from the ice, and give back to the community. For the families a chance for a little fun as well.
"I love picking out the toys for the kids, the clothes," said Tyler's wife Shelby Eckford. "That's probably the best part about it. Being able to do it with the Benoit girls is always fun."
The Benoit girls were maybe the most enthusiastic shoppers of all, as this shopping adventure provides a teaching tool for the captain of the B-Sens.
"It's trying to teach them that buying stuff for other people is just as much fun," said Benoit. "That we can help in the little ways that we can."
As the afternoon finished up there were just a few more things Emma thought they needed.
"I'm going to get them Princess things and different things," said Emma.
Making sure families other than their own have a joyful holiday season.
