BSens Come Up Short Against Penguins

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Binghamton Senators fell to the visiting Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 5-2, at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena, losing their second straight game for the eighth time this season.

Penguins’ forward Chad Kolarik struck first scoring his 19th goal of the season on the power play at 4:53 in the first.

Binghamton fought back in the second as Tyler Eckford put one past Brad Thiessen on the penalty kill to give the B-Sens their 14th shorthanded goal of the year, evening the score at one. Despite Eckford’s efforts, the Penguins would come back on the power play courtesy of Trevor Smith at 15:29.

Wilkes-Barre kicked off the third quickly as Smith put the Penguins up 3-1 with his second goal of the night, just 35 seconds into the period. The Penguins extended their lead as Brian Gibbons netted a shorthanded goal at 4:36. Dylan Reese gave Wilkes-Barre their third power play goal by slipping one behind Robin Lehner at 14:06. The B-Sens would rally once more as Jack Downing earned his third goal of the season at 15:36 to ultimately set the score at 5-2.

Lehner received the loss, stopping 30 of 35 shots. Thiessen tended goal for the Penguins, making 22 saves on 24 shots.

The B-Sens return to action Sunday, Feb. 17, as they travel to Albany to face off against the Devils at 3 p.m.
