The Binghamton University Baseball Team won't take to their new field until the end of March, but the Bearcats new season begins this weekend. Despite losing a wealth of talent, including two major league draft picks, Binghamton is once again eying an America East Conference Championship.

The team does still return eight position starters and two starting pitchers from last year's squad, who finished third in the conference, and lost in the semis of the America East Tournament.

That depth and returning talent has both coaches and players with high expectations again for this year's team.

"You don't replace a 5th rounder, you don't replace a closer that was drafted and you don't replace a middle of the order hitter very easily. But you hope that guys take advantage of those opportunities who now will be put into those positions," said Coach Tim Sinicki, starting his 21st season with BU. "I think instead of replacing those guys man-for-man, you hope to kind of do it in bunches."

"I think the veteran presence on our team will definitely help a lot," said senior Bijan Mangouri. "I think that the guys who have come in this year have picked up and learned so much, so quickly."

The Bearcats kick off the season at James Madison for a weekend series starting this Friday.
