Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Jennie Finch made a name for herself on the Olympic softball field. She pitched the U.S. team to a gold medal in 2004 and a silver in 2008. She retired in 2010 but even if she hadn't, you wouldn't have seen her at the 2012 games in London.
That's because there was no baseball or softball.
The two sports were pulled from Olympic play in 2012 and won't be around in 2016 either.
But 2020 in Tokyo could be when and where they make their comebacks. Finch expressed her hope for exactly that today while speaking at the celebrating women in athletics luncheon at Binghamton University Monday.
"We hear there is another chance in the next couple of months they'll revisit sports in the program. I think we do have a chance to get in, it will be in Tokyo for the 2020 Olympic games," Finch said. "Hopefully, they can use the political pull they had for hosting the games to bring back one of two sports that mean so much to the Japanese culture, as well."
