Oneonta girls soccer to play for state crown

CORTLAND (WBNG BINGHAMTON) The Oneonta girls soccer team is on its way to a second straight state championship game.

The Yellow Jackets used a pair of second half goals to overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit, jettisoning Hornell Saturday in their semifinal matchup.

After Jocelyn Acor put Hornell ahead in the first frame, Oneonta struck quickly to even the score.

Mariah Ruff headed in a Taryn More corner kick. More asissted on both of the Yellow Jackets' goals.

Oneonta jumped ahead for good with under seven minutes to play.

More set up Madison Miller in front of the net, Miller knocked it in and Oneonta never looked back.

Oneonta gets Marcellus in the title game, which kicks off at 4 p.m. at SUNY Cortland.

On the field hockey scene, Whitney Point's bid for a state title fell short in dramatic fashion.

The Golden Eagles lost to Pierson/Bridgehampton 2-1 in a game that saw two scoreless overtime periods and two shootouts.

In volleyball, Owego's girls volleyball team secured a spot to the Class B state title game tomorrow, where they'll play Johnstown.

And Vestal's field hockey team came up a bit short in their semifinal match today, losing to Lakeland.
