Oneonta, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Maine-Endwell soccer team is in the final four of the state playoffs thanks to a senior's winning penalty kick Saturday afternoon.

After playing to a scoreless tie in regulation and 2 overtimes, the Spartans took down Lakeland in penalty kicks when senior TJ McCarthy scored to send M-E to the next round.

Goalie Chris Heimes came up big, stopping 3 penalty kicks.

But players and coaches say they're happy the game winner came from McCarthy, who is a senior.

"There's no better feeling than what I just felt. I wanted this since 2 years ago when we lost to Goshen in regionals. I wanted this so bad, it was just so great," McCarthy says.

"I couldn't be happier a senior was walking up there eventually. I knew with TJ walking up there, a senior, everything he's put in this year, the minutes he's logged, I knew we were in great hands. I knew he was confident and I had a great feeling he was going to end it right there," says head coach Chris Riley.

The Spartans will take Sunday and Monday off, before getting back to work on Tuesday to prepare for their game on Saturday at Middletown high school.
