Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Binghamton University has four wrestlers heading to the NCAA championships this week.

One of those wrestlers wasn't sure he'd be physically ready.

133 pound Derek Steeley missed a chunk of the season with a serious leg injury.

But he competed at the CAA championships and finished second, which earned him an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.

"Just felt great to finally punch my ticket to go to nationals, especially with the leg injury getting through that the last 5 weeks and working and making it to nationals," Steeley says.

Steeley will face unseeded Sam Speno of North Carolina State on Thursday.

Speno is coached by former Bearcats coach Pat Popolizio.

It's Steeley's first appearance in the NCAA Championships.
