(WBNG Binghamton) Some of the top high school talent in New York State will be coming to Johnson City this weekend for a basketball showcase.

It's the annual BCANY summer hoops festival, hosted by the basketball coaches association of New York.

Nine girls teams and eight boys teams will compete for the tournament title.

It started three years ago to take the place of the Empire State Games, after they were canceled. Players for the Southern Tier girl's team can't wait to play.

"It's really exciting, working with the best players in the Southern Tier and I'm really excited because there's going to be good competition when we get there," says Harpursville senior Miranda Drummond.

"It's the best competition they're going to find outside of the state tournament. AAU you get some good tournaments and some that aren't so competitive but all the teams that are coming to this tournament. All have great players so it gives everybody a chance to compete against the best," says Southern Tier head coach Kurt Ehrensbeck.

Nine of the 11 players on the Southern Tier's team played for a sectional championship last year.

The tournament starts Friday and runs through Sunday at Johnson City high school and middle/elementary school.
