Vestal, NY (WBNG, Binghamton) For the first time a club volleyball team from the southern tier has made it to nationals. After winning their regional the Whirlwind Volleyball club will travel to Dallas, Texas this summer for the national tournament.

Three different teams from the club will be heading to Texas this summer to compete for a national championship, including the 14 & Under team.

That team's coach couldn't be more excited for this group of girls to be making history.

"I am very proud. It couldn't happen to a better group of girls," said coach Breanna Horton. "After not playing together then coming in for the first time and playing together from different schools, they play together really well so it's really exciting."

"I've never flown on a plane before, and I'm really excited to go to Dallas," said 13-year-old Makenna Kallin

"It's really exciting because...I don't know, I've never left the state before, so it's pretty cool," added teammate Sarah Kies

Now all three teams need some help to try to get to Dallas for the national tournament. They're raising money by doing various fundraisers over the next few months.

One is a car wash coming up on May 19th, and they say they'll be out during the Owego Strawberry Festival this year as well. The fundraising effort will benefit the 14 & Under team as well as the 16 & Under and 13 & Under teams.
