BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A date has been set for the commissioning of a new U.S. Navy warship in Buffalo later this year. The USS Little Rock commissioning committee received word that the $360 million vessel known as a littoral combat ship will be commissioned Dec. 16 at Canalside on Buffalo's Lake Erie waterfront. The new ship will be commissioned next to its namesake, a WWII ship that's part of Buffalo's waterfront military park.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Testimony is underway in the trial of a Rochester man charged with fatally stabbing his estranged wife and his college student daughter last fall. Thirty-eight-year-old Patrick Brooks is on trial for two counts of second-degree murder in the slayings of Christie Brooks and 18-year-old Victoria Brooks, who was a freshman at Canisius College in Buffalo. A family member found the victims' bodies in a bedroom the morning after Thanksgiving.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Federal authorities in western New York say they've apprehended a man wanted in a fatal stabbing in Southern California last year. The U.S. Marshals Service says its fugitive task force in Rochester arrested 30-year-old Calvin Hobby at a local hospital on Tuesday. He had been sought in the stabbing death of 30-year-old Michael Nichols, of Gary, Indiana, on a San Diego street on June 19, 2016.
NEW YORK (AP) - Police in New York City are looking for an SUV driver they say fatally dragged a man trying to buy an Armani jacket from him. The New York Police Department says 49-year-old Dennis Gandarilla met with the driver Tuesday in the Bronx to buy the jacket. The driver then sped off at some point during the conversation, dragging Gandarilla for about four blocks before he was thrown to the ground.
