NEW YORK (AP) - Police say a man has died after being stabbed in the chest on a tree-lined street near New York's Times Square. Officers found in front of a brownstone apartment building on West 46th Street in Manhattan around 3 a.m. Monday. A church is located next door.

NEW YORK (AP) - Who should be allowed to serve as priests in the Catholic church, only straight men or gay men as well? Allegations that disgraced ex-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick engaged in sex with adult seminarians have inflamed the long-running debate. Some conservatives want a purge of all gay priests. Moderates want the Church to eliminate the need for secrecy by proclaiming that gay men are welcome as priests if they remain celibate.

UNION CITY, N.J. (AP) - A new era of headaches is starting for New York-area commuters. Monday marks the first full weekday of lane closures on the approach to the Lincoln Tunnel, already one of the worst bottlenecks in the northeastern U.S. One lane will be closed in each direction for the next 2 ½ years to accommodate the rebuilding of an 80-year-old bridge. New Jersey's transportation commissioner says there will be "a tremendous amount of pain for everyone who lives and travels in this corridor."

(AP) - Throughout Aretha Franklin's career, "The Queen of Soul" often returned to Washington _ the nation's capital _ for performances that at times put her in line with key moments in U.S. history. She sang for diplomats, welcomed emperors and brought one president _ Barack Obama _ to tears. Franklin died Thursday at her home in Detroit at 76.
