(WBNG) -- A Binghamton high school student with a soft spot for spiders will spend her summer trying to cure cancer.
Binghamton High School junior Rosie Masso was accepted into the prestigious Summer Cancer Research Experience Program. It's run by Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo.
Masso was awarded a full scholarship to cover the program tuition and a stipend to cover room and board.
"I feel as though it is going to be a fantastic opportunity for me and it will look so good for my future," said Masso. "Anything I can do to better my future will be welcomed."
The program runs from June 26 through August 11. It will focus on conducting scientific research on radiotherapy as a tool to treat cancer.
Masso will work alongside a research staff of graduate students, post-doctoral scholars and technicians.
