BINGHAMTON (WBNG)-- Tuesday night marked the launch of a new program in Broome County to help building owners pay for renovations.
Dozens gathered at the Holiday Inn to celebrate the Energize NY Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing program.
It allows commercial and non-profit building owners to finance energy improvements.
Officials say there are more than 8,000 buildings in Broome County that could potentially benefit.
They say lighting, HVAC and insulation are most commonly improved with this program. Those usually deliver the highest savings and improve safety conditions in older buildings.
"I want our community to be a place where my children and other young people want to stay, want to raise their own families want to be able to flourish and clean energy is a value proposition that really will help our region and our community lift itself up economically," said Adam Flint, Southern Tier Solar Works Manager.
According to officials, Tompkins County is the only other county in the Southern Tier participating in the program.
