HARPURSVILLE (WBNG) -- The students at W.A. Olmsted Elementary School in Harpursville headed into their yoga mats for International Kids' Yoga Day on Friday.
The day is celebrated across the United States and also in 25 countries. Students in Pre-K through sixth grade practiced yoga in their gym classes to the same video that kids across the world completed Friday.
Physical Education teacher Julie Dietrich is an ambassador of the program and taught her students the importance of incorporating yoga into the day.
"Yoga is great for the students because it helps them focus, it helps center them, calm them so when they go back into the classroom they can focus on their learning, listen to the teacher and get the most out of what they are learning," Dietrich said.
This is the second year Dietrich has brought the program to the school.
