BINGHAMTON (WBNG) - Former Binghamton Senators head coach Luke Richardson is headed back to the NHL. The longtime NHL defenseman has been hired as an assistant by the New York Islanders. Richardson left Binghamton, and the Ottawa organization as a whole, following the 2015-16 season. Since then, Richardson led Team Canada to a championship in the Spengler Cup, which is an invitational hockey tournament in Switzerland.
Doug Weight is the current head coach for the Islanders who Richardson will serve under.
