APALACHIN (WBNG) -- The Tioga Hills Elementary School gave students an opportunity to learn about trucks from different industries on Friday.
The school hosted 'Touch a Truck' where students were able to see how people operate their vehicles and what their jobs are like.
The purpose of the event was to help children become comfortable with larger vehicles and make them aware of what it's like to drive a big truck and work in one.
"When they get into an emergency situation, they are calmer and not as upset or scared," Tioga Hills Elementary PTA member Kimberly Gorey, said. "It's a good time for that."
NYSEG, New York State Police, construction vehicles, a fire truck and a military vehicle were all part of the event.
The students also participated in a scavenger hunt.
