BINGHAMTON (WBNG) - Another day, another doubleheader Tuesday night for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Binghamton split two games with the RubberDucks in Akron, dropping the first game 1-0, then winning game two, 6-0.
Game one was a pitchers' duel. Doubleheaders are seven inning games in the Eastern League and neither team scored until the ninth. Akron's Tyler Krieger hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the ninth to win the game for the RubberDucks. Marcos Molina came off the disabled list Tuesday for Binghamton and fired six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts in the loss. Both teams only managed five hits a piece in game one.
Binghamton's bats heated up in game two. The Rumble Ponies scored in the third inning to take the lead, and added four more in the fourth to cruise to victory, 6-0. Mickey Jannis was dominant on the mound, throwing a complete-game seven-inning shutout with nine strikeouts to pick up his seventh victory of the season. At the plate, Dale Burdick went three-for-three with three runs scored and two RBI in the victory.
Binghamton and Akron complete its four-game series with afternoon baseball in Akron Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
