BINGHAMTON (WBNG) - Thursday night, former Binghamton Rumble Pony Chris Flexen will make his MLB debut for the New York Mets in San Diego. Flexen is scheduled to start for the Mets against the Padres.
The 23 year-old right-hander made just seven starts for the Rumble Ponies before getting the call up to the big leagues straight from Binghamton. Flexen was 6-1 with 50 strikeouts and a mere seven walks in more than 48 innings-pitched in Double-A, earning him the promotion.
Rumble Ponies manager Luis Rojas believes Flexen is ready to help the Mets.
"I know how excited he is," said Rojas. "He was really excited when he got the news that he was going to go up there. He's more than ready to be there. Good call. For him to go, and reinforce, and help the big league team in that start tonight against the Padres. We're sure that he has the stuff to perform up there."
First pitch in San Diego is set for 9:10 p.m.
