Lagares feels good following first rehab appearance

Posted: Updated:

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies took down the best team in the Eastern League Tuesday night, defeating the Trenton Thunder, 3-1, at NYSEG Stadium. The Ponies had a little assistance from its big league club with both Juan Lagares and Robert Gsellman performing well on rehab assignments.

Lagares is back in the Ponies' lineup Wednesday night as he continues his rehab assignment recovering from a fractured left thumb. The 2014 National League Gold Glove Award winner went two-for-three Tuesday. Lagares isn't sure when the New York Mets will deem him ready for major league action but he is enjoying his time as a Rumble Pony while he awaits the call.

"Not really (when asked if he knows when the Mets will end his rehab assignment)," said Lagares. "Most importantly, I feel good. After tonight, I'll be ready for anything."

On rehabbing with Binghamton:

"I'm back and I feel good," said Lagares. "It's always good to be with the kids, and I remember the old times. It's good."

First pitch between Binghamton and Trenton on Wednesday is set for 6:35 p.m. The Ponies currently own a three-and-a-half game lead on Reading for the second playoff spot out of the Eastern Division.
