JOHNSON CITY (WBNG) -- For the first time ever, the Southern Tier girls won the BCANY Summer Hoops Festival Tournament, 58-48, over Rochester at Johnson City Middle School on Sunday.
The girls from Section IV went a perfect 5-0 over three days to claim the crown in a tournament where some of the top talent from across the state of New York participated.
"I feel for a while that we have had really competitive girls basketball, and I think the right combination of kids here competing really hard is able to show everybody else how high our game really is," Susquehanna Valley girls basketball head coach Chad Freije said.
Binghamton Patriots junior guard Kaziah Ross led the way with a team-high 13 points. She said after the win that it's a blast to play on the same team with some of best players from Section IV.
"It's actually good because they're the best of the other teams, and you always have to play them, and just to have them on your team is just great and just to help us win? Is just the best feeling in the world," Ross said.
