BINGHAMTON (WBNG) - Corey Oswalt has been named Eastern League pitcher of the week, the league announced on Monday. Oswalt tossed a seven-inning two-hit shutout against the Trenton Thunder last Thursday. Trenton owns the best record in the Eastern League. He retired the final twenty batters in the game to shutout Trenton.
According to MLB Pipeline, Oswalt is the 28th best prospect in the Mets' system. He is the third Ponies pitcher to earn the honor this season.
Former Binghamton Met, Dom Smith, also earned an award on Monday. Smith was named Minor League Baseball's player of the month in Pacific Coast League for July. The first baseman posted 16 multi-hit games in the month and collected eight home runs and 26 RBI. Smith reached base safely in 24 of the 26 games he played in July.
