Rumble Ponies split doubleheader with RubberDucks

GAME 1

AKRON, Ohio (AP) -- Kevin Kaczmarski had three hits and two RBI, and Robert Gsellman hurled six scoreless innings as the Binghamton Rumble Ponies beat the Akron RubberDucks 6-1 in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday.

Gsellman (1-0) picked up the win after he struck out five and walked one while allowing three hits.

Binghamton started the scoring in the first inning when Kevin Taylor hit an RBI double and then scored on a single by Tomas Nido.

The Rumble Ponies later added three runs in the fourth and one in the sixth. In the fourth, Kaczmarski hit a two-run triple, while Taylor hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Luis Guillorme in the sixth.

Shao-Ching Chiang (0-1) went 5 1/3 innings, allowing five runs and seven hits in the Eastern League game. He also struck out four and walked two.

GAME 2

AKRON, Ohio (AP) -- Todd Hankins singled three times as the Akron RubberDucks topped the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 2-1 in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday.

Cameron Hill got Patrick Biondi to hit into a forceout with a runner on first to end the game for his 10th save of the season.

Up 1-0 in the second, Akron extended its lead when Ivan Castillo hit an RBI double, scoring Taylor Murphy.

In the top of the seventh, Binghamton saw its comeback attempt come up short after L.J. Mazzilli hit a solo home run to cut the deficit to one.

Robbie Aviles (5-2) got the win with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless, two-hit relief while Binghamton starter Marcos Molina (1-6) took the loss in the Eastern League game.

Dale Burdick singled three times for the Rumble Ponies.

The teams split the doubleheader after Binghamton won the first game 6-1.
