ENDICOTT (WBNG) -- Days away from the Dick's Sporting Goods Open, organizers planned a party to recognize the thousands of volunteers it takes to pull the event off.
Leo Hubik has been volunteering for events at the En-Joie Golf Course for 46 years, this year is no exception.
"A friend of mine was working it and he asked me if I would like to work and I said yes and it just happened," said Hubik, "it's busy and I enjoy it."
Organizers said it takes more than a thousand volunteers to pull the event off. They said they decided to recognize the volunteer's dedication and hard work by hosting a volunteer appreciation party.
The evening was filled with a variety of food, drinks, and raffles. It celebrates those dedicated to the event.
Gasber Balmeri said he has been working the transportation for the event for 43 years.
"It's a bad habit I guess. I just like it," said Balmeri.
Balmeri is one of the many volunteers who work long days to make sure the event runs smoothly. Organizers said they want to recognize the dedication of their volunteers by awarding one person to be the volunteer of the year.
Hubik was the recipient of this year's award.
"I can't express it in words, I couldn't believe it," said Hubik.
