ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- An upstate New York couple has welcomed a rare set of naturally conceived identical triplets.
Morgan Van Akin, of Saratoga Springs, gave birth to the boys by cesarean section two months early, on Aug. 4, at Albany Medical Center. All are healthy, weighing more than 3 pounds each, and are gaining strength in neonatal incubators.
Their father, Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Ross Van Akin, tells WNYT-TV in Albany that the birth of his three sons is better than winning the lottery.
Experts have put the odds of having identical triplets without fertility drugs at about one in a million.
Identical triplets come from a single fertilized egg split into three.
