Vestal Police squash rumors about Walmart shooting

VESTAL (WBNG) -- Vestal Police posted on its Facebook page saying there was no shooting at the Vestal Walmart Saturday afternoon.

Authorities said the Vestal Police Department responded to the Town Square Mall for a suspicious persons complaint at around 1:30 p.m.. Authorities said while investigating the incident, patrols located the suspicious male in question and started to speak with him.

Police said officers attempted to arrest the 24-year-old male and he resisted arrest. Authorities say the male then ran into Walmart and a short foot pursuit ensued inside the store. Vestal Police say officers were yelling for customers to get out of the area where the male was for their safety, but at no time was there a gun or weapon displayed by the male.

Patrols took the male into custody and transported him back to the Vestal Police Department. Police say they would like to squash the rumors going around on Facebook.
