LISLE (WBNG) -- The Mary Ellen Lane Scholarship is awarded to a hardworking Whitney Point High School student who plans on pursuing future education, trade school or college.The scholarship was created ten years ago in honor of a Whitney Point High School teacher that died.Mary Ellen Lane is remembered for her positive influence on student lives.An auction was held Saturday at the Lisle Fire Hall to help raise money.Dozens of people filled the fire hall to check out different items like purses, children's toys, and gently used clothes."I'm always after helping children and that's the main thing," said auctioneer Bob Connely. "Today helping kids and making sure they have something to do."This year $2,000 was raised for the scholarship.
