WAVERLY (WBNG) -- Community members were invited to safely dispose of their old prescription pills and non-liquid medication Saturday at the 'Shed the Meds' event in Tioga County. It's held to help prevent medications from falling into the wrong hands.
State Senator (R) Fred Akshar teamed up with the Tioga County Sheriff's Office and Waverly Village Mayor, Patrick Ayers for the event.
The Southern Tier AIDS Program also held a free NARCAN training session for those who were interested.
"If I can play a very small role in communities throughout senate 52, whether they are very small communities or their big communities like the city of Binghamton, we're going to continue to do events like this," said Senator Akshar.
Akshar says the 'Shed the Meds' events across his district have collected more than 500 pounds of prescription drugs.
