Whitehouse leads Akron to 4-0 win over Binghamton

AKRON, Ohio (AP) -- Matt Whitehouse allowed just four hits over seven innings, leading the Akron RubberDucks over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies in a 4-0 win on Sunday.

Whitehouse (7-6) struck out five to pick up the win.

In the first inning, Akron took a 2-0 lead after Greg Allen scored on a pickoff and Francisco Mejia scored on an error. The RubberDucks scored again in the fifth inning when Bobby Bradley hit a two-run double.

Corey Oswalt (9-5) went six innings, allowing four runs and five hits in the Eastern League game. He also struck out six and walked three.

The Rumble Ponies were held scoreless for the eighth time this season, while the RubberDucks' staff recorded their seventh shutout of the year.
