BINGHAMTON (WBNG) - Despite losing at home on Monday night for the first time since August 3, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies' magic number to clinch a postseason berth sits at four. That means any combination of Ponies wins and Reading losses to reach four and Binghamton is headed back to the postseason.
The Rumble Ponies have positioned itself for the postseason with phenomenal pitching. The Ponies are second in the Eastern League in team ERA and have thrown a ridiculous 18 team shutouts this season. Rumble Ponies manager Luis Rojas says the entire staff deserves some credit.
"You gotta mention the pitching," said Rumble Ponies manager Luis Rojas. "It's really what keeps us in the games. Our defense goes in hand with that. We've played really good defense behind our pitching. All of our pitchers, starters and relievers, have kept the tempo of the game and always keeps our defense on their toes. And they are able to make every play, or the majority of them. Always gives the chance for the bats to come in and get a big at-bat, or get on base, steal a bag, and (get a) big hit, and next thing you know we take the game."
Binghamton is back in action Wednesday against the Fisher Cats. Doubleheader starting at 5:05 p.m.
