BINGHAMTON (WBNG) - Syracuse forward Taureen Thompson will not return to Syracuse for the 2017-18 season. Thompson averaged 9.2 points and 3.8 rebounds, playing 17.9 minutes per game as a freshman.
"We have been informed that Taureen is taking a leave of absence from Syracuse University," Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim said in a statement to Syracuse.com. "My understanding is he wants to go to school closer to home due to some family health issues."
Thompson joins DaJuan Coleman (graduation), Tyler Roberson (graduation) and Tyler Lydon (NBA Draft) as key departures from Syracuse's front court. Paschal Chukwu is expected to receive more playing time as a result of Thompson's departure. Chukwu played in just seven games for the Orange last season.
