JOHNSON CITY (WBNG) -- Johnson City Schools held its first block party event on Monday to help give back to kids in the community.

The schools, the Broome County Promise Zone, along with local businesses and faith groups provided entertainment and family fun at The Bridge in Johnson City.

More than 100 children were provided with backpacks containing supplies they will need for this new school year

Peggy Kucko, Principal of Johnson City Intermediate School said, "Our inner faith group decided it was going to be a joint project that we did with everybody. So we found out all the supplies needed for the kids in the different grade levels, we made a big spread sheet and divided up all the supplies and they went back to their churches and organizations and we just had hundreds of donations from within the community to help support our kids," said Kucko.

Food & Fire provided dinner for attendees.

Johnson City School officials said the event was a big success.
