TOWN OF CHENANGO (WBNG) - The Chenango Forks girl's soccer team started its Class B New York State Championship defense season at home under Chenango Forks' new lights against Susquehanna Valley. It was the first game played underneath the lights at the high school.
Sophomore Lauren Ashman started the scoring for Forks with a header off a corner kick from Emma Bough. Sophomore Sophie Rusnak added two goals in the first half as the Blue Devils took a 4-0 lead into halftime. Chenango Forks cruised in the second half to victory, 10-0.
Here's what some of the Blue Devils had to say about being the first team to play under the lights at Chenango Forks.
"It was really cool," said Chenango Forks sophomore defender/midfielder Sophie Rusnak. "Because a lot of people came out that normally wouldn't come out because Forks is a football school. So, a lot of people came to our soccer game."
"Getting to play under the lights is a great experience that most people don't get," said Chenango Forks sophomore midfielder/forward Lauren Ashman. "Having everyone here to support us was great."
Chenango Forks finished the 2016 season 23-0 and claimed the program's first state championship.
