Ponies win 8th straight heading into playoffs

Posted: Updated:

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies scored nine unanswered runs on Monday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium to close out the regular season with a victory against the Hartford Yard Goats, 9-3. It's the eighth straight victory for the Rumble Ponies heading into the playoffs on Wednesday against Trenton.

Binghamton trailed by three runs entering the third inning. Kevin Taylor drew a walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the third to score the first run. The next batter, L.J. Mazzilli, singled home the next two runners to tie the game at three.

The Rumble Ponies took the lead in the fifth when Taylor doubled home Kevin Kaczmarski. Taylor finished with three hits and four RBI in the game.

Binghamton added four insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth.

The Rumble Ponies finish the season 85-54.

After the game, Rumble Ponies manager Luis Rojas said not much will change for Binghamton heading into the playoffs.

"We're going to take advantage of the day tomorrow and rest," said Binghamton Rumble Ponies manager Luis Rojas. "Then, we'll do the same thing we did all season. What got us here is what we are going to do. We're going to get ready each day. We're going to study our opponent, and we're going to put our plan together, and we're going to go with that plan very hard in between the lines."

"(The playoffs are) very exciting," said Binghamton Rumble Ponies catcher Tomas Nido. "I think we had a really good second half. We're all excited. We're playing really good as a team and we're really excited for this next series."
