Eastern Division Championship Series - Trenton vs. Binghamton

Posted: Updated:

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- Eastern League Pitcher of the Year, Corey Oswalt, will be the Game 1 starter Wednesday night when the Binghamton Rumble Ponies host the Trenton Thunder in the Eastern Division Championship series.

The Thunder ended the season with the best record in the Eastern League at 92-48.

Meanwhile, the Rumble Ponies finished just 6.5 games back with the second-best record at 85-54

According to Binghamton manager Luis Rojas, selecting Oswalt to start the first game of the series was a no-brainer.

"It wasn't really a hard decision," said Rojas. "I mean, that's our rotation. Oswalt was the pitcher of the year. Awarded best pitcher in the league as a starter, and he's going to get the ball in game one."

So how does Oswalt feel about getting the nod?

"My approach doesn't change," said Oswalt. "I'm just going to go out there and pitch my game and stay within myself and just go out there and compete. This is what you play for to get to the postseason and hopefully become a champion, so we're all really excited and pumped to go out there and compete and try and win this."
