Thunder down Ponies in wild game two

Posted: Updated:

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) - The Trenton Thunder scored the first four runs in game two of the Eastern Division Championship Series en route to victory over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 9-6, at NYSEG Stadium. The Thunder's victory evens the series at one game a piece.

In the third inning, Dante Bichette Jr. homered off of Ricky Knapp to give Trenton a four-run lead. The Ponies responded in the bottom of the third. Kevin Kaczmarski tripled home Luis Guillorme and L.J. Mazzilli to cut Trenton's lead in half. Peter Alonso singled in Kaczmarski from third, cutting the lead to one. Two batters later, David Thompson smoked a double to right center field. Alonso scored to tie the game and Trenton catcher Francisco Diaz threw the ball into left field trying to catch Thompson advancing to third, allowing him to score as well, giving Binghamton its first lead of the game, 5-4.

Trenton would go on to score three in the fifth and added an insurance run in both the sixth and ninth innings to hold off the Ponies, 9-6.

In total, Trenton collected 18 hits, while Binghamton recorded 12. The two teams also combined to make three errors in the game.

Kaczmarski finished a home run away from the cycle, smacking four hits and recording two RBI in the loss.

The two New York Yankees rehabbers, Clint Frazier and Garrett Cooper, combined to go one-for-nine with a RBI and a run scored in the game.

Game three of the EDCS is set for Friday night in Trenton at 7 p.m.
