The Southern Tier Independence Center, in collaboration with several community partners, will be hosting the Broome County Housing Summit: There's No Place Like Home. This event will help people understand the impacts, and explore community-based solutions for the housing problem in Broome County.
The summit is free and open to the public. It will include panel discussions focusing on personal experiences of people with disabilities obtaining house. Local developers will share their success and challenges they have had on housing projects. Government officials and community leaders will discuss their role in the development of safe, affordable and accessible housing.
Keynote Speaker is Christopher Coes, Vice President of Real Estate Policy and External Affairs at Smart Growth America.
There's No Place Like Home Housing Coalition meets the third Tuesday of each month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The group works with local developers, county execs and funders to bring more accessible housing into the community.
