Local agriculture is the backbone of the community. Farms account for more than 500,000 acres of land across the 52nd Senate District. In Broome County there are over 560 local farms to pump over $20.9 million into the upstate economy. That's why Cornell Cooperative Extension Broome County and Senator Fred Akshar are presenting the Broome County Farm Trail for the Fall of 2017.
10 farms located in Broome County will be participating this year, including a few "first-timers". Farms include Dutch Hill Creamery/Aukema Dairy Farm, Old Barn Hollow Local Food and Artisan Market, Country Wagon Produce, NYALA Alpaca Farm, JADA Hill Farm, Broome County Regional Farmer's Market, Perfarming Acres, HH Rider Trails Club at Camp Sertoma, Verde View Equestrian Center, Lone Maple Farm and Apple Hills. Click on the farms name to learn more about each one.
If you are attending the farm trail there are a few things you should know to make your travels easier. People should look for signs on the road to help guide you to each farm you will be visiting, wear a pair of shoes you don't mind getting dirty, be prepared and pack a hat, sunscreen and umbrella, please don't bring your pet and last but not least, be prepared to have fun and learn something new.
The Broome County Farm Trail will take place on September 30 and October 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Some farms will be participating the entire weekend, others just Saturday or Sunday. Click here to see what farm is participating when and to plan your trip.
