BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- The Binghamton Devils hit the ice with a bang in Saturday night's inaugural home opener.
The new AHL-affiliate for the New Jersey Devils got two first period goals from Blake Pietila and Nathan Bastian. There was a fight featuring Ben Thomson. Plus, Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 26 of 27 shots in the 2-1 win over Bridgeport.
As a result, the B-Devils made a great first impression in front of an incredible sellout crowd of nearly 5,000 fans.
Here's head coach Rick Kowalsky on that amazing atmosphere:
"I thought [the fans] were into it. Especially after the first goal, I thought they were into it. It was a good game, and there were chances both ways. We had a fight. There were some hits, so [the fans] were consistent supporting us, and they were loud."
The Binghamton Devils go on the road for two games against the Laval Rocket this Friday and Saturday.
