Project launched to help bring food to an area in need
VESTAL (WBNG) -- The Many Hands Food Cooperative project was publicly launched Tuesday night at Binghamton University.
The collaborative partnership between student and community organizations was inspired by Binghamton Blueprint 2016. which is an on-campus program to influence the surrounding community.
Tuesday night's event included the unveiling of the co-op project, as well as guest speakers and hands-on simulations.
The Many Hands Food Co-op has been around for seven years and has worked with the Northside Grocery Store Project.
The project's director, David Currie says, "The mission is essentially to bring affordable wholesome food into areas that are under-served currently, and to include as much as possible local foods in that component."
The Many Hands Food Co-op has been proposed as the solution for bringing a grocery store to the north side after twenty years of not having one.
