Aukema family: 'Thank you to all of them, from the bottom of our hearts'

CHENANGO (WBNG) -- A farm in Chenango Forks continued to burn Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators are still looking into what sparked the fire Tuesday night at the Aukema Dairy Farm on Knapp Hill Road.

Several police and fire agencies responded within minutes to the scene.

"Thank you from the whole community and the fire departments that responded," added Aukema Dairy Farm Co-Owner Douglas Aukema.

Seventy cows escaped the flames. They were brought to a nearby farm in Lisle. The family says the animals are safe and sound.

"Thank you to the hundreds of local neighbors, farmers, friends, that came here last night and today. Helped move cows, bring their trucks and trailers, and just all the help they gave. And the fire departments, eight, nine fire departments. Just thank you to all of them, from the bottom of our hearts," Aukema Dairy Farm Co-Owner Pat Aukema told 12 News Wednesday.

The Dutch Hill Creamery will remain open at the farm.

A gofundme account has been set up for the family. Click here to donate.
