BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- The Goodwill thrift store in the Price Chopper Plaza at 12 Glenwood Ave. in Binghamton says it will be closing down for good.
Goodwill NYNJ President and CEO, Katy Gaul-Stigge, released a statement to 12 News, saying, "As the environment for brick-and-mortar retail becomes more competitive and costs continue to rise, we determined that the organization faces a significant structural operation deficit. As part of this plan, we have made the difficult decision to close five of our forty-plus stores between now and the end of 2017."
Only one of the five stores closing is in the Binghamton area. The customers walking into the location were shocked to see the closing signs on the storefront windows.
"As soon as we walked in, it was just completely empty and we had no idea the store was closing. It's kind of sad because we actually shop at Goodwill all the time," said Simon Cameron from Port Dickinson.
For the remainder of its time, the store is holding a closeout sale with everything half price. The popular thrift store in Binghamton will be closing its doors on October 24. The spokesperson of Goodwill said those who work at the location have been offered employment at other area Goodwill stores.
