BINGHAMTON (WBNG) - #5 Vestal met Maine-Endwell in the Class A Section IV girl's soccer championship game Thursday night at Alumni Stadium in Binghamton. Olivia McKnight scored the first goal of the game in the first half to give Vestal an early lead. Eighth grader Emily Blight tied the game at one for Maine-Endwell shortly after.
From there, the game would remain tied until overtime. In the extra time, Victoria McKnight scored less than two minutes into the first of two ten minute periods to put Vestal back on top and the Golden Bears held on for the victory. It's Vestal seventh straight Section IV girl's soccer championship.
Final Score: #5 Vestal - 2, Maine-Endwell - 1 (OT)
"I just remember taking a touch, looking up, it was just me and the goal, so I was like 'I've gotta put this away,' said Vestal junior Victoria McKnight. "So I shot it. When I saw it hit the back of the net, I was so excited. I just turned and saw my sister and I just jumped into her arms. I was so excited and happy."
"This one feels the best to me because like my friend said 'the harder the battle, the sweeter the victory,'" said Vestal junior Olivia McKnight. "It's how it is. We worked so hard. It's always kind of been easier for us, but this year we worked so hard throughout the whole season and to come here and win in overtime, it's the best feeling ever."
