VESTAL (WBNG) -- Vestal girls soccer is good, like seven straight Section IV titles good. So rather than feature just one athlete of the week, 12 Sports' is showcasing two, the McKnight twins, Olivia and Victoria.
"I'm happy they're on my side," Vestal head coach Bill Stepanovsky exclaimed.
This season, Victoria has tallied 16 goals and six assists, while Olivia has scored 14 times to go along with six assists, as well.
"They're amazing players," senior outside midfielder Sydney Regan added.
Born just three minutes apart, the McKnight twins are inseparable. They do almost everything together, from sharing their clothes to playing their favorite sport, soccer.
"We've been playing together since we were three, so I know where [Victoria's] always going to be," said Olivia. "[Victoria] knows where I'm going to be."
That twin-like sixth sense helped the Golden Bears claim their seventh straight section crown.
"They really work hard," said Stepanovsky. "On the field and off the field, as well."
Case in point last Thursday night when the McKnight twins led Vestal to a thrilling 2-1 overtime win over Maine-Endwell.
"When they're on, it seems like our team seems to be on," Stepanovsky said.
Born second, Olivia scored first with Victoria assisting on the goal.
"[Olivia] always makes runs behind the defense," Victoria said.
"I was running up the side," Olivia said.
"So I kind of knew where [Olivia] was going before she even made the run," Victoria explained.
"And then I just found the corner," Olivia added.
Olivia's goal put Vestal up 1-0 in the opening half, but the Spartans tied it up eight minutes later, which eventually set up Victoria's game-winner just two minutes into the first of two mandatory ten-minute overtime periods.
"I found the ball," explained Victoria. "I took a touch outside. I knew I had to score."
"That was so needed," said Stepanovsky. "And as I said, these girls have a way of stepping up when it's time."
"I was so excited," said Regan. "I knew when [Victoria] had it. I just knew she was going to finish it, and it was a great finish."
"[Victoria] just scored," said Olivia. "I just ran at her. Then we just jumped into each other's arms. I was like, 'Please don't miss.'"
Only juniors, the McKnight's have already verbally committed to the Binghamton Bearcats women's soccer program.
Apparently they just can't get enough of each other.
What's four more years of the McKnight's confusing the masses?
"Still trying to figure out which one is which sometimes," exclaimed Stepanovsky. "Thank goodness for numbers, and Tori puts a bun on top of her head, so we can figure that out, but they're so alike in many ways."
You can catch the McKnight twins when the No. 5 Vestal Golden Bears (13-2) face-off against the Cornwall Central Dragons in the Class A state sub-regionals on Wednesday, November 1 starting at 4 p.m. in Middletown, N.Y.
