DIGGING DEEPER: How Catholic Charities will put your donations to use

Posted: Updated:

(WBNG) -- The holiday season is one of, if not the busiest for local charities in our area.
As 12 News continues its telethon Thursday from 5 p.m. through 6:30 p.m. and you are considering a donation, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Nearly 3,000 families signed up this year for a Thanksgiving basket through Catholic Charities, representing close to 8,000 people in Broome County to receive a Thanksgiving meal.

35 community organizations requested turkeys. The turkeys from this year's drive reached an estimated more than 10,000 people in our community. The same numbers are expected for the December holiday season.

$25 feeds a person for an entire week. Catholic Charities food pantry is the largest in Broome County, serving over 5,000 people each month.
During the first day of our Harvest for Hunger Phone-a-thon, 12 News helped raise more than $5,000.
