Public hearing Tuesday for proposed drug treatment facility in Broome County

Posted: Updated:

BROOME COUNTY (WBNG) -- You'll have a chance to weigh in and learn more information about a proposed drug treatment facility during a public hearing Tuesday.

County Executive Jason Garnar wants the former Broome Developmental Center in the town of Dickinson to be turned in a center to help people dealing with addiction.

Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare would operate the facility.

"In November the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services sent a funding award letter to Broome County for $2,300,000 for Fiscal Year 2018," according to the county.

The Broome County Legislature must approve the plan, which is something that has been at the center of controversy.
