Vestal house damaged in 2011 flood demolished

Posted: Updated:

VESTAL (WBNG) -- The Broome County Land Bank Corporation demolished 349 Second Avenue in Vestal on Tuesday.

The town of Vestal supervisor says the former resident abandoned the home after it was flooded and it has taken years for the foreclosure process to be completed.

This is the latest in a wave of demolitions, as Broome County continues to fight blight and clean up neighborhoods around the area.

"So we are very proud to come in and take care of this property that has been a nuisance property, an eyesore for these neighbors. If you look around the street, you can see the neighbors have pretty much bounced back from the flooding. So eliminate this eyesore, this daily reminder, hopefully it will be a really tremendous impact for them," said Margaret Scarinzi of the Broome County Land Bank.

The Land Bank is now looking into offers from nearby residents who may want to buy the property. Learn more by calling the corporation at (607) 778-6001.
