ONEONTA, N.Y. (WBNG) -- Two men have been arrested for drug possession as police continue to investigate the death of a SUNY Oneonta Student.

On Tuesday, Oneonta Police arrested Steven A. Fleming, 20, of Levittown, New York and Luke J. Spencer, 20, of Mineola, New York.

Police executed a search warrant at 34 Academy Street in Oneonta, New York, as part of the investigation into the death of Daniel William Michaels, 18, of Dix Mills, New York on December 2.

Fleming was charged with possession of marijuana. Spencer was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.

According to police, the search found marijuana consistent with personal use in the living space at 34 Academy Street belonging to Fleming, and approximately 1 gram of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $100, was found in the living space of Spencer.

Daniel William Michaels had not been a resident of 34 Academy Street, authorities say.

Police say neither of the arrests was directly linked to the death of Michaels and the drugs recovered from the 34 Academy Street residence are not believed to have contributed to the death of Michaels.

Police emphasize that these confiscated substances are not suspected as to having contributed to the death of Michaels. They were found during the course of the investigation, which is still ongoing.
