Tyler Stewart emerging for Bearcats

Posted: Updated:

VESTAL (WBNG) - It's finals week at Binghamton University so the men's basketball team is off until Sunday. The Bearcats are riding a six-game winning streak and redshirt freshman Tyler Stewart is stepping into a bigger role for the Bearcats. Stewart scored a career-high 12 points and grabbed a career-high seven rebounds last week against Army, helping him earn his first America East rookie of the week award. Stewart is a player with a lot of promise coming into the season and Binghamton head coach Tommy Dempsey says Stewart's emergence is just about the Silver Spring, Maryland native getting healthy.

"Ty is a talent," said Binghamton men's head coach Tommy Dempsey. "He was playing really well for us at the end of the Canada trip. He had an unfortunate setback when he broke his wrist in the preseason, and that cause him to miss four or five weeks, and he's also been playing with it taped up. So, he's starting to get back to full strength both with his conditioning, his timing, his confidence with playing with the fracture. Through, it's pretty much healed at this point."

Binghamton takes its six-game winning streak on the road Sunday to Sacred Heart. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
