JOHNSON CITY (WBNG) -- Friday marked the start of the Fighting Breast Cancer Holiday Classic basketball tournament at Davis College.
The tournament brings in girls basketball teams from across the Northeast together in hopes of raising awareness of breast cancer.
Two local teams, Union Endicott and Binghamton, participated in the tournament.
Event coordinator Greg Johnson said they hoped the girls take away more from the tournament than wins and losses.
"We hope that they truly get a ton of information about breast cancer, that's number one -- but to be able to compete against girls from all across the country -- and compete at a high level, especially our local girls -- we want to bring, let the local girls know that they can compete at a high level as well," said Johnson.
The tournament ends on Saturday. All proceeds will be donated to the UHS Foundation.
