BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- It was a story that topped local headlines back in 2001: a dramatic deer rescue with a happy ending.
On January 5 of that year, neighbors called the police when they noticed a deer was trapped in the ice in a creek on Binghamton's south side.
Its leg was injured and it might not have made it without help.
The deer appeared frightened, but was evidently okay. The city's dog control officer took the deer to a veterinarian and later released it back into the wild.
