February is American Heart Month and Weis Markets is proud to be partnering with WBNG-TV to bring you the 9th annual Weis Healthy Heart campaign.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women, accounting for 1 in 4 deaths in the U.S. Preventative measures such as eating a healthy diet, exercising, avoiding tobacco, managing stress and undergoing regular health screenings can reduce your risk of developing the disease by up to 80%.
One simple way to take control and manage your risk for heart disease is with the foods you put in your shopping cart at the grocery store. The foods that offer protection against heart disease include plant-based foods such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and whole grains as well as low-fat dairy and lean proteins and fish.
Starting January 29th through February 26th, tune into WBNG-TV every Tuesday between 12:15 and 12:30pm during the Around the Tiers segment. As part of this year’s Healthy Heart campaign, Weis Markets’ Registered Dietitian Nutritionists Erin Dunleavy and Kathryn Long will be discussing heart-healthy eating and lifestyle habits to help you take action towards a healthier heart. Watch for sponsored Healthy Heart commercials that are scheduled to air weekly through February.
